Junior Curling Program
Summerland has an active Junior Curling Club that meets every Wednesday after school from 3:30-5:00PM mid-October to mid-March (about 20 weeks).
The fee for the 2023-24 season is $60.
We have found that 10 years old is a good age to start curling.
We provide all the necessary equipment (brooms, grippers, sliders), and a new protective cap or toque free to new curlers. All you need are clean soft-soled shoes or sneakers, stretchy pants, a warm jacket and gloves. Curlers are not allowed to curl in the same shoes that they wear to the rink.
If you're new to curling, don't worry: we have good coaches and we're all about having fun. With a few months experience, even new curlers can compete in South Okanagan junior bonspiels (tournaments) including our own windup Junior bonspiel.
Curling is an Olympic sport. Beyond our fun league there are opportunities to advance to competitive levels. We recently had a junior boys team that did well in BC Winter Games and qualified for provincial playdowns.
Experienced junior curlers may also curl in Summerland adult leagues. Junior members pay half adult league fees and may spare for free.
